Kitty and Friends go to Trinoma (The Pre-Event)

On Thursday, the University of the Philippines-Diliman will hold another Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) event. Different school organizations from the University would set up seminars, workshops, forums, symposiums, and the like, to give students some bit of education not inside the ordinary classroom setup.

For the past three semesters, I have always attended these activities. Once, I attended a film showing of Fullmetal Alchemist that was followed by a short talk on existentialism. Then the next semester I attended, together with my friends, a film showing of Happy Feet, preceded by a short lecture on bird watching. And just last sem, I took part in a post-Harry Potter 7 symposium, which was really fun, by the way.

So, this year what will I attend? There are over 100 choices so it's difficult to decide. Good thing that my friends, especially Kitty (he's actually Kit; his new nick is Kitty hahaha) and Kester, gave me some answers.

We're going to Trinoma! yahoo! This is simply telling that we're not going to attend any ACLE and, instead, hang out in the mall to sing in the videoke. Kat is also inviting us to sing in their place instead of Trinoma. I'm still not sure what shall be the final plan.

meeting you was serendipity

Serendipity, n. /ser-uhn-dip-ity/
an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident
I have a knack of watching chick flicks when they come out in silver screen, although in denial, i am by heart a hopeless romantic. I have watched them all, except one - Serendipity, a 2001 movie starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. Thanks to my best friend mel, I was able to watch it in VCD the other day.

The movie is all about believing in destiny and relying on fate. It's when you give out conditions or signs that would tell you if the person you're with is "the one" or just another chapter in your life. Conditions that are almost impossible to come true like having a 5 dollar bill with his name and number written on it go back to your hands after you bought a candy or finding the book "love in the time of cholera" with her name and number in it after she sold it in a used book shop. What are the chances for that to come true? A million to one i daresay.

To be honest i was skeptic about watching this film, because for one i do not believe in destiny or soul mates for that matter. I think that you should not risk loosing the person you love just because some sign didn't show up or some conditions not fulfilled. I believe that destiny is what you make it, although i agree that things happen for a reason, it still feels wrong to let an idea or concept control what you do in life.

However, i would be lying if i said that after watching Serendipity that my beliefs have not been altered at all.

"Waiting anGg"

It's not so much as relying on fate itself or setting up signs to better understand the chaotic world of emotions - but simply the act of hoping. Destiny does not only entail the story of "you and me forever" but rather how there are no meaningless actions and how stories of other people are intertwined to create a happy ending. Sure coincidences and signs were posted all over the film, but what made them destined for each other i believe is how they never forgot the emotions when they're together. The sequential events are just a dust of sugar in Sara and Jonathan's story (main characters). They showed how you can not let only fate do the work, somewhere in the line you have to start chasing for what you want and become, as they call it in the film, a "jackass". Take risks and make sacrifices because at the end it'll be all worth it.

so i dare you not to hesitate or think twice anymore. Having the chance to meet the girl/guy you'll spend the rest of your life with is destiny itself.

"... the courageous Trager secretly clung to the belief that life is not merely a series of meaningless accidents or coincidences. Uh-uh. But rather, its a tapestry of events that culminate in an exquisite, sublime plan.... Ultimately Jonathan concluded that if we are to live life in harmony with the universe, we must all possess a powerful faith in what the ancients used to call "fatum", what we currently refer to as destiny"

For the Love of Dickens

"You know what this is? It's my heart--and it's broken. Can you feel it?"

At last, the Great Expectations post.Great Expectations

I became interested in this film years ago when I saw its trailer in our French Kiss DVD. I have to admit, the scene that made me say, "I will watch this film" was the part when the little protagonists kissed while drinking from a fountain (See video by clicking this link; embedding was disabled for this video).

Starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow, this 1998 movie is based from the book written by Charles Dickens, except that the setting is in 20th century United States and not 19th century England. Some of the names of the characters were also changed. The Pip in the novel was changed to Finn, for instance.
Unlike many other attempts to 'modernize' classics, Great Expectations, in general, is a successful one. The original core of the plot was retained, albeit other embellishments were trashed. In that aspect, it's quite disappointing because it failed to give importance to the social implications of the novel.

Nevertheless, it's still a good movie. What made the movie good is not the storyline (if you'll look at it, it's a simple rich girl-poor guy love story), but the cinematography. Only those who do not have good taste will say that the way the movie was shot is dismal. Thanks to the director, Alfonso Cuaron, I saw New York in new light--a city of mixed elegance and ugliness.

In the end, I suggest that you watch this film. It may not be the movie of all times, but it is definitely a movie one must watch.

Note: What I put here was the poster for the French poster. I find it to be prettier than the American poster.

Holding Hands <3

My partner has been eaten by his work and exams. Sad sad. I on the other hand, have nothing to do - but thanks to our virtual office! Instant Boredom Reliever!

I was browsing my friend's multiply today when i came across this picture.

eric and marc 2006

tadaa!! hahahaha No, they're not a couple, although they could have been in their past life! HMM.. ponder ponder. It's for their presentation. If you're curious - our ever-so-homo professor made us do a "Pinoy Entrep Academy" on our Entrepreneurial class. =

I was laughing my heart out when i saw this picture... But looking at it for a long time made me realize how time flies so fast. In months time I'll be graduating soon and would be facing the "Real World". I'm excited about it knowing that freedom at last would be within reach and at the same time shaken to my wits knowing the uncertainty that comes with it. I'm afraid that i may not be ready for it.

ergh.

But hey - we learn by moving on right? It's okay to be afraid, it just shows that you are human. What would be wrong is when you let that fear take hold on you. Eating you up to the extent that you stop chasing your dreams because of it.

So i'll keep on moving, till my life hinders me from doing so. Aja Debbie!

p.s. marc and keekie if you saw this - i'm sorry. haha :)

Resolution Shmesholutions.

It has been exactly 16 days and 1 hour since the start of 2-0-0-8. Unlike, the general population of the world, i did not start the year right. No fireworks or that she-bangs music in the background. No scrumptious, mouth watering, calorie infested medya noche either.
BUT - for the past days, the gods and goddesses of this world of ours (if there are any) looked down upon me, and gave me one hell of a joy ride. So being inspired that i was, what the heck! I'll be starting anew...

so let's begin with the traditional - Resolusyon 2-0-0-8

1. Sleep before 12:00 - thanks to the internet community, i have been sleep deprived for some time now. Eye bags and acne are now prominent guests in my face. (damn you). So a beauty rest is called for. Limit the internet hours... to let's say... 11? :D

2. Study More - Geek alert. Although i may not look like it, i am grade conscious. But i hail from the specie of G.C.'s who fuss about their grade, but they still choose nonsense things over their accounting worksheets. I'm only good at pretending to study and rely mostly on "stock knowledge" (which doesn't work by the way). Change must be made! We have to realize the money spent for learning those lessons and having those professors boss us away. If these reasons are not enough, let's just think of how we can not get into our dream jobs if our resume is clean and our transcripts are red marked. Unless if your dream job is to be at a call center, good luck (i have nothing against those who go into it, luckily we are all given the right to choose)

3. To live a healthier life - ha ha ha. to all women out there, i swear we have all made this promise to ourselves but constantly failed to uphold it. This time is different -my body is screaming for justice. I have abused it more than one way possible (use your imaginations - okay don't.) Start to exercise (walk more), eat healthy foods (damn you mcdo) and run away from vices ( ... i'm beginning to think if it's worth it. haha)

4. Become a GIRL. - i'm doing this for all the women out there who have been outshine by homos with toned body, full geared make-up, highlighted hair and super skinny jeans. HOW DARE YOU! The nerve to parade yourself and make us feel that we are more manly than you. (hahaha). but seriously, i decided to include this here because a friend told me kanina when he saw our gay classmate...

drake: deb.. mas babae pa sya kesa sayo
deb: : :( :'(

sakit.

5. Become a matchmaker - 2007 was depressing for me because a lot of my friends broke up. So for 2008 my goal is to spread some L O V E in this island of ours. Starting with my ever so handsome and dashing Gian Paolo Samson! This guy likes long walks in the beach , solving math problems and eating donuts.

Happy New Year!

I'm Back!...Sort of.

As you have probably noticed, Debbie here has taken care of this little office while I am gone, geeking off for my exams. Actually, they are not yet finished, and with my online work, I find it difficult to find time to post here. In fact, if you will visit my old blog, you'll notice that I barely update it as well and if I did, they're just snippets of information that I just came up with.

Right now, I cannot still make a decent post as I still have one examination (Introduction to Elementary Mathematical Logic--whew!) on Monday. I just posted here just to remind you people that I am also an author of this blog. Lol. Well, as I can see here, my partner's doing a great job making all the posts *wink* and so I thought that I am not missed here. Anyway, I'll be around here in the future. Probably next week. Ciao guys!

Serendipity

I'm not that good in drawing as you can see. But lately (thanks to Great Expectations) I was inspired to draw, especially pictures that evoke emotions. It's my new hobby nowadays... especially now that i'm stressed over nothing. The pictures are just my things in my head - but i'm not EMO, mind you. And yes, the paper i used is my starbuko planner. Turns out, the money and caffeine are worth it. haha. :
To those who know how to draw, teach me please?

under influence or being influenced?

how many of you know people who would say yes to this question?
how many of you... can consider these people as your friends or even your closest friends?
i do. and it pains me to admit that.
don't get me wrong, i love them even if they're high or not, but i hate what they're doing to themselves. a friend told me that "drugs is fun at first, but in the end it will never be" and i second that. i know what drugs do to your brain, how it impairs your thinking and the long run effects of it... i know how drugs is considered illegal in our country... but still.
when it comes to them, i stay silent. i who have all the opinions and rants in the world.. stay silent whenever my close friends get high... or have a roll with telling their latest pot session stories. Ironic isn't it? It's funny how it is easy to tell strangers anything in the world.. yet you can't tell those who are close to you to stop... but the fun ends when they begin to creep their influence on you - temptation slowly takes form.
I have this notion before... to understand other people, you have to do, what they do. Live in the situation, in their experience and then you can relate to them. That's how i got my first vodka shot... and other stuffs. shh.
But what about now? Should i join the bandwagon? Even if the pressure and the thought of liberation and freedom a high gives you... i would have to decline and just sit in the corner.
Call me a party pooper, but i just have to think about my life first before the exhilarating thoughts of seeing moving paintings and long colorful circles. I want to be your friend, but not at the expense of loosing the fiber of my upbringing. I may have entered into your circle of friendship, but doing this.. I'm sure that i would be loosing valuable ones.
Freedom comes in different forms, not just in grass or capsules. I would be laughing uncontrollably and dancing my ass off not because of some pot... but because i feel alive more than ever. So i say no to your drugs... but if you can give me friendship wrapped in a foil...
then i say let's burn it! :)

Lantern Parade!

It's Gian's college float - Engg! Too bad nobody was there to see it. haha. kidding.

pants on fire

because my partner is busy with preparing for his exams (even though he doesn't have to - that lucky boy.)... I'll be doing the entry.

My new ever so cute firemen underwear ('pante' as my lola calls it) made me reflect a lot about their importance in our society. Scratch that. In other countries.

What i have noticed is that here in the Philippines, we don't give due respect to our "unsung heroes". We often ignore them and worse even pass up judgment. Like the fire in Baclaran, bystanders and victims of the fire were complaining about how the fire department were slow to put out the fire, or how it took them time to get there. What people did not take into consideration was the numerous stalls that prevented those red trucks from entering or the fact that the government has low budget for emergency stations/dept. Or even the bigger fact that there are no fire stations in some cities.

I guess it's human nature. We're good at looking at the negative side of things and bad at giving credit to those who deserve it. Maybe that could be the reason why our "unsung heroes" are becoming extinct nowadays. Less people want to become teachers, nurses desperate to fly abroad, 1 or 5 true MMDA guys... and many more.

Yes. My cute panty gave me the sympathy signal. haha.

I just think that it's unfair how other people see and treat them lowly. Not just to firefighters but also to other people... who like them have low paying jobs but are required to work in the wee hours. So this is a calling for everyone (i hope). Be reasonable about circumstances (however, i can understand if you're a fire victim - after all you just lost your house.. or your dog) and think if what you're going to say is right (an idle tongue is the lengua of the devil). If you don't have something good to say... then shut it. A free country does not entitle you to act stupid and hurt other people's feelings.

(But if they're inefficient and considerably slow- that's a different story)

2nd entry for the 2nd day.

my fartner as you can see... is very formal :) totally different from me.

expect many great words of wisdom from him, after all his brain is comparable to that of einstein's. hahaha. well almost.

while mine... will be like oprah's. or maya angelou.

enough with the random thoughts.

hello. as the resident photographer of this highly acclaimed blog of ours, i am entitled to give a few words for introduction sake. The boss and the secretary is simply a place to rant opinions, express creativity and once in a while advertise insurance companies (haha). I would be posting entries, pictures and poems of hopeless love. kidding.

Mr. Gian Paolo Samson on the other hand would be in charge mostly of all the writings and the technicalities of this blog. So to his fans out there, congratulations! more of him to indulge! :)

To finish this off, I too am excited for this new thing of ours, it would be fun to see how our contrasting style of writing and run of thoughts would make a harmonious web filled with passion and ingenuity. (Kudos to gi for thinking of this idea)

Paalam 2007!
Hello there 2008! Another chapter, another whole new adventure. Let's start it right with this video from our rehab friends in Cebu shaking their bom boms to the infamous Thriller! Aw.

Au Revoir!!

A First Post for the First Day of the Year

Yehey. This is my first post! Well, to be honest, there's nothing much going on my mind tonight. I was just thinking (uhm, no, it was Lance who thought about this) that it would be good if I make a first post on the first day of the year. As for my partner, Debbie, she doesn't have any plans of making the first post. She wants me to do it. That superstitious girl. Haha. Anyway, what is this blog all about? Is this another crappy personal blog?

The answer is yes and no. Yes, this is another personal blog but, no, we'll try to make this as un-crappy as possible. On second thought, there'll be probably instances when this won't look like a personal blog. I dunno.

In the coming months, expect to see lots of pictures taken by our resident photographer, Debbie. She'll make a lot of poetic works, too. I'm supposed to make a text for the pictures she posts. It's up to me whatever interpretation I make. I must admit that I am kind of excited because we aren't supposed to talk about what she'll be posting and what I'll be posting. So everything's kind of a surprise. Hmm.

Notice that the banner of this website does not seem to fit the the box on top of this page (I dunno what it's called. Lol. I've tried resizing it to no avail. So I'm just letting it be.)

I think that's enough of an introduction for now. Haha. Just keep updated through the following days and we'll start posting. I hope I made a good first impression on you. You can see more of my writings here and, Debbie's, here. Have a good day. Cheers!

(The title "The Boss and the Secretary" was derived from the fact that we are both a boss and a secretary. During the time when I still had no Internet connection at home, she served as my secretary by regularly checking my email for important notes and other clerical work. I also serve as her secretary when she's in the province, just like now, and have some important stuff do like send email, etc. She has no Internet connection in the province, by the way.)

This blog is brought to you by...
